I have a full time job and I do bar work on the side - does this mean I should also run as a candidate? Maybe I don't have enough outside interests...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21462026.post-90460190710677189102010-04-14T13:42:39.088+01:002010-04-14T13:42:39.088+01:00Yes Mr Soames I am glad that you won't be able...Yes Mr Soames I am glad that you won't be able to take as much taxpayer's money in the future.
It always amazes me the way the rich moan about the amount of tax they pay, then extract every lasy penny of tax paid by those who have much lower incomes.
Incidentally - it would be great if you lost the whole £65,00 plus on 6th May.Pensionernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21462026.post-41811171482853525022010-04-13T23:44:02.937+01:002010-04-13T23:44:02.937+01:00Get a life, Serena.Get a life, Serena.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21462026.post-59672391569843963852010-04-10T14:14:02.729+01:002010-04-10T14:14:02.729+01:00Of course, when MPs were unpaid they had to have a...Of course, when MPs were unpaid they had to have an alternative income which was why parliament used to be the preserve of the rich. That was back in the nineteenth century when being an MP was not a particularly taxing occupation. Rightly, we now expect MPS to devote their full time and attention to their constituents and parliamentary matters. That is incompatible with having a load of jobs on the side. What irks me is that I don't see how earning £400,000 per year as non-executive director of various companies (i.e. basically doing "sod all" work) equips Soames for a reall understanding of the difficult world that most of us inhabit. All right for some!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21462026.post-21201285548219870112010-04-09T21:31:05.325+01:002010-04-09T21:31:05.325+01:00Why would anyone support an MP who clearly has oth...Why would anyone support an MP who clearly has other priorities than his constituents? With his voting record? And then he has the cheek, when told he is to be deprived of his allowances for a second home in London "I hope people will be happy that I'll be significantly;y worse off." (Mid Sussex Leader 8th Apr '10) What planet is he on? Does he not know that hundreds (if not thousands) of his constituents regularly commute to London on a daily basis? So why should he also not do so? With his attendance and voting record he cannot claim parliamentary duties keep him in London!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
