During my weekly browse for Burgess Hill related videos on YouTube, I found the following effort by some Oakmeeds Pupils for an English class project.
It's an advisory video on how you must behave in school to avoid getting into trouble from your teachers.....
I was rather concerned by the scene 'Don't annoy your teacher' (3 mins 43secs in) Are we to assume that annoyed teachers at Oakmeeds lash out at the pupils?
I've been scouring YouTube again and have discovered a gem.
A pupil from Oakmeeds has made a promotional video for his school and it's not too bad actually, however it's in urgent need of an edit.
You see, 26 seconds into the video there is a spot with one of the P.E teachers (although by the looks of him, you could be forgiven for mistaking him for a pupil) Anyway, in his part, he boasts about Oakmeeds' huge lucious expansive area of grass. It's a big selling point for the school.
The video fails to inform the viewer that this expansive area of grass is about to be swallowed up by a new school complete with playground and caged all-weather sports pitch.

From the video we learn that the Oakmeeds P.E department now offer Lacrosse, Ultimate frisbee and that they have a rounders team. What kind of a sport is Ultimate Frisbee? When I was at Oakmeeds, we weren't presented with activites such as Ultimate Frisbee in order to encourage participation.
Additionally, I almost vomited when I spotted that the year sevens, the lowest on the secondary school food chain, now have their own picnic area!
There is also a choir that sing popular music as apposed to traditional hymns.
All that's needed now is for the teachers to wear red blazers and then the school can be renamed Butlins.
Since the Waitrose car park went over to the dark side, you have no option but to pay the expensive car parking charges set by Mid Sussex District Council.
With the council also looking to introduce controlled parking zones in and around the town, you can forget about parking in the side roads.
What affect is this having on the town centre at the moment and how much worse will it get?

On Wednesday morning, fire crews in West Sussex were busy attempting to douse the roaring flames at the Junction Pub in Burgess Hill. Thankfully the pub has been closed for a rather long time so no damage to business was incurred, nor was there anyone living in the building.
An uncomfirmed rumour is that a developer wanted to build lots of flats on the land, but had planning permission refused. Would a large piece of empty land due to a bulldozed pub help their cause?
Local videographer Eddie Howland was at the scene and captured the hunky fireman hard at work with their hoses.

Once again proving that life in Burgess Hill isn't always boring. If you want boring, you'd have attended the annual town meeting tonight. The sensible would have stayed home and watched the North London Derby on Sky Sports.
Every now and again, I search You Tube to see if there have been any new videos added that are related to our fine town. Usually the new offerings are from some guy that is obsessed with filming trains and thinks everyone else wants to see them. Problem is, it clutters up the 'Burgess Hill' search results page.
Anyway, a quick search last night threw up the following video:
So, some geeky guys dressed as Stormtroopers decided to hang around Burgess Hill, looking for some love and attention that they don't get from their families.
Seriously though, I think it's rather cool, Star Wars fans would have enjoyed it, and children would have been thrilled and probably a little scared at the same time.
I'm rather sad at seeing this video though as I was in the town centre on Saturday for the first time in months and I did a whole circuit and didn't happen to see these guys. If I had found them, I would have requested they blow up all the parking metres in town.
But why were they in town? Were they promoting the Burgess Hill Fairtrade Festival by way of threatening to blow off peoples heads if the didn't go and buy some beads from the Martlets Hall?
Their video contains footage shot in various shops around town, I'm surprised that this was allowed, unless of course they did it without permission and the shopkeepers were too scared to tell them to stop.
Was it prearranged, or was it a random outing for the Stormtroopers? I shall endeavour to find out for you, my loyal readers.
Perhaps next week people will dress up as terrorists with bombs strapped to their bodies..... Well, it's no real difference to walking around with huge rifles now, is it?
Christmas 2009 marked the 6th annual McCarthy Industries Christmas video featuring various residents of Burgess Hill and beyond. The chosen song for this festive season was Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone.
Some time ago, a group of us went around Burgess Hill and 'covertly' took pictures and made a video about all the pubs in the town. Finally I've found the time to bring all these videos together onto one page on the Burgess Hill Uncovered website. They are rather novel and should provide you with a bit of a giggle. Since these videos were made, the pub landscape in the town has changed, with some pubs having been refurbished and in some cases shut down!
Back when I was just a little nipper, when it snowed, people made snowmen and that was it. Fastforward two decades and it seems that the human race has become more creative when it comes to snow.

I've been searching for Burgess Hill videos on YouTube quite frequently in recent weeks as I work towards expanding the videos featured on Burgess Hill Uncovered
This weekend I found VIDEO GOLD in the form of a recording made at Burgess Hill School for Girls. For those of you that don't know, Burgess Hill School for Girls is a private educational establishment where the wealthy send their girls to recieve the finest education in the land.
But did these parents know that their daughters were being educated on all the various slang words for the female genetalia?
The video uploaded to YouTube features the girls, dressed in their school uniform, in a classroom, reeling off all these words for your viewing pleasure.
Someone is in for a good telling off when the teachers at the school realise that the false reputation they have has been exposed by their own pupils!
On Friday 2nd November, a trip into town was taken in order to gain a map from the Burgess Hill town council help point, the map that we required was for the Bedelands Farm Nature Reserve. You see, over the past few months, people in pubs have been praising Scott McCarthy and myself for the Burgess Hill version of 'Is this the way to Amarillo' and had enquired as to when we'd be making another video. I decided that our next feature needed to promote something in Burgess Hill that some people may not even know about, the Bedelands Farm Nature Reserve was an obvious choice.
The lady in the help point was indeed helpful (and attractive, always a bonus!) however she seemed to find it surprising that two young men would be choosing to spend the afternoon visiting a nature reserve. To be honest, it's not a place that would be at the top of my places to visit in my spare time, but we had a reason to be going there and we weren't about to be telling her what that was. Having thanked the fine lady for her assistance, we popped into Iceland to buy some bread before making our way to the location.
As with many of our videos, we were producing on the fly, there's no storyboarding, scripting or viewing the area before we shoot. Working this way is an enjoyable challenge, having to come up with lighthearted scenes on the spot. I think we pulled it off quite well this time. Take a look.....
I've never explored the nature reserve in great detail before, so I found our jaunt out into the countryside interesting. The areas of woodland are very beautiful, it's certainly a place where you can go and gather your thoughts. I'd also recommend it as a destination to take a loved one, what exactly you get up to with them is your own business!
We met many charming female dog walkers during our time at Bedelands, they were more than happy to point us in the direction of the Mill Pond. One of the women that we met was Mary Smith, a member of the 'Friends Bedelands Farm' group. She was delighted to learn that we were doing a video about the area, however she thought we were doing it as a college project, I'm not sure how she'd have reacted to find out it would be appearing on a website famed for it's exposure of the public toilets and a gorilla called Gordon!
This video is just the first of many new pieces of content to be appearing on Burgess Hill Uncovered over the next month. We are finally moving forward.
